A mixed day for Ladywell at Francis Drake

A Ladywell triple took part in the Francis Chappell & Sons Open Triples competition at the Francis Drake club on Sunday 27th June.

Eight clubs from across South East London took part in the all-day event, each playing five 35-minute matches in a Round Robin, with two points for a win and one for a draw. The two top teams then contested a final of six ends for the impressive trophy.

The Ladywell triple of Des Marrett, Phil Welch and Richard Moorhouse started well, with a win against the hosts, Francis Drake, before a draw with Langley BC in their second match. Their third match was a close one against previous winners Southwark Park, but Ladywell lost by the narrowest of margins.

After a delicious lunch, there were two more matches for the Ladywell team, with a win against Forest Hill, before another narrow loss against Pleasaunce BC. With a record of two wins, two defeats and one draw, Ladywell finished fourth overall - a decent result for an enjoyable day's play.

Luckily, the rain that had been forecast held off until shortly after the final between Langley BC and Dulwich Park had been decided, with Dulwich Park the eventual winners. Congratulations to them and well done to all the teams who took part.
