Honours were shared in Ladywell's home friendly against Francis Drake Bowling Club on Saturday 3rd July, with the visitors winning two games against the home team's one and Ladywell winning the overall match by just one point, by 50-49.
At the break after nine ends, it was clear that it was going to be a closely fought contest, with Francis Drake leading 11-3 on Rink 1, while Ladywell were leading 19-4 on Rink 2 and 6-5 on Rink 3. After the break, Skip Mark Simmons on Rink 2 continued his recent fine form and ran out a comfortable 35-8 winner. On Rink 1, Francis Drake pulled away to a 25-6 win, so the match on Rink 3 was the decider.
This was by far the closest match of the afternoon and after 15 ends, the scores were tied at 9-9. The Francis Drake trio then edged ahead 10-9 with two ends to play. And, although the Ladywell team played well, the visitors finished stronger and eventually won 16-9.
