Ladywell lose narrowly in Round 2 of BBDBA Triples League

After a resounding win in the first round of matches of the Bromley, Beckenham & District (BBDBA) Triples League the previous week against Bromley, which put Ladywell at the top of Division A on points difference, our two triples were hoping to carry their good form into round 2 against the Met Police BC.

It was a perfect evening for bowls and both matches were closely fought. The Ladywell home triple of Norman Lewis, Phil Welch and Des Marrett got off to a great start and were 8-0 up after four ends, but a four for the Met Police team on the next end halved the deficit. From then on, there were some excellent shots from both teams, but Ladywell managed to keep their noses ahead, eventually running out winners by 18-11 and gaining two points.

The Ladywell triple of Marion Edwards, Kim Simmons and Mark Simmons playing at the Met Police bowling club in Hayes faced a tougher test and although they played well, went down by 21-10, which meant the Met Police won the overall match by just four points. So they took two points for the home win, plus the extra two points for the overall win.

Despite the narrow loss, Ladywell are still in a strong position in the Division - but there's a long way to go before they can be sure of reaching the semi-finals as one of the top two teams.
