The Ladywell Triple of Norman Lewis, Phil Welch and Des Marrett lost out narrowly away at RBS Bowls Club in the 2nd round of the Beckenham, Bromley & District Bowls Association knockout competition on Friday 16th July.
In a tight match between two evenly matched triples, the RBS team came out on top by 16-15. It was a close contest all the way through, although RBS always seemed to have the edge, particularly after a 4 that took them to a 10-5 lead early on. But Ladywell pulled back and at the 15th end with three ends to go, the teams were tied at 13-all.
On the 16th end, RBS edged ahead once again, 14-13. But it was the penultimate end that gave them the winning margin with a fortunate two points that took them to 16-13. Although Ladywell's Skip, Des Marrett played a superb shot with his last wood on the final end to take the jack when RBS held the shot, it was only enough for two points, rather then the three that his team needed to take the tie to an extra end. So, it's RBS who go through to the next round to play either Orpington or Eltham.
