Ladywell v Forest Hill bowls match report

Ladywell played their final bowls match in the Beckenham, Bromley & District Bowling Association Triples League on Friday 11th July, against Forest Hill.

With no possibility of reaching the knockout stage, Ladywell were playing for pride in the home and away triples matches.

The home match was a tight affair. Forest Hill started the strongest and took a 5-0 lead after two ends, but the home team of Susan Levene, Bernie Jermin and Skip, Phil Welch, soon got into their stride and pulled back to 5-5 after five ends. The lead then changed hands a number of times as first one team and then the other gained the upper hand. With three ends to go, Forest Hill held a one shot lead, but Ladywell gained three shots to swing the match in their favour. But once again, the Forest Hill team pulled back, gaining a single crucial shot on the final end, to tie the scores at 17-17.

This meant the score in the away match at Forest Hill would decide the winners of the tie. And unfortunately for Ladywell, the home side proved too strong for the Ladywell triple of Norman Lewis, Richard Moorhouse and Skip, Des Marrett. Forest Hill took control from the start of the match and, although the Ladywell team showed signs of pegging them back, it eventually went Forest Hill's way by 25-12.

Disappointingly, this meant Ladywell gained a single point, leaving them bottom of the Round Robin league and hoping for a better campaign next season.
