Ladywell's bowls match against Francis Drake on Saturday 24th May had to be abandoned due to a medical emergency after a member of the Francis Drake team collapsed on the green.
The Friendly match, which had already been postponed and rearranged once, was at the halfway stage when the incident happened. The teams were just returning to the green after the tea break, when Jill, the Francis Drake Skip on one of the rinks collapsed forwards onto the ground.
Everyone on the green rushed to help her, so she was quickly put into the recovery position and an ambulance was called. The ambulance arrived at the green in Hilly Fields, Brockley within ten minutes, by which time Jill had regained consciousness, although she'd remained unconscious for two or three minutes after her initial fall. And after the ambulance crew had assessed Jill's condition, they decided to take her to hospital as a precaution.
In the circumstances both teams agreed to abandon the match, which was finely poised, with Francis Drake having a slight edge, being ahead on two rinks. But Ladywell did have a healthy ten-point lead on the third rink, mainly thanks to an impressive score of eight out of nine possible shots on the ninth end by the Ladywell triple of Phil Welch, Tracy Umney and Skip, Steve Marlow.
All Ladywell's players hope Jill enjoys a speedy recovery and we look forward to welcomng the Francis Drake players to our green for the return match later in the season.
