Ladywell had another good win in the Beckenham, Bromley & District Bowling Association's Triples League on Friday 30th July beating the divisional leaders, Forest Hill 32-25.
Triples League matches involve two triples from each club playing each other home and away at the same time. Ladywell's away triple of Des Marrett, Kim Simmons and Mark Simmons playing at Forest Hill got off to a good start and built up a healthy lead of 14-2.
Even though the Forest Hill team pulled back in the closing stages, Ladywell's lead was too much for them to catch up, with Ladywell eventually winning by 15-9.
Our home triple of Norman Lewis, Robert Dunn and Phil Welch also got off to a strong start and after 10 ends, they were leading by 15-6. But, as in the other match, Forest Hill staged a fightback and with three ends to go, the scores were tied at 15-all. With Ladywell gaining one point on the 16th end and Forest Hill scoring one on the 17th, it was all down to the final end. Both teams seemed to gain the edge in the end, but with three woods to come for each club, it was a measure for shot. With neither Skip able to change the head, the result of the measure was one shot for Ladywell by millimetres to take the match by 17-16.
The result means that Ladywell take all six available points - two for each win, plus two for the overall win. This puts them four points ahead of Forest Hill and in a very strong position to qualify for the semi-finals as one of the top two teams in the division, with one match to play.
