Ladywell's friendly match away at Francis Drake ended in a victory by 69-40 on Wednesday 11th August. On a warm summer's afternoon that provided perfect bowling conditions, the Ladywell triples won convincingly on two of the three rinks, with a narrow loss on the third.
The first Ladywell triple of Norman Lewis, Kim Simmons and Mark Simmons had a strong start, gaining two fives and a four on the first six ends. So, by the break after nine ends, they were leading 21-2. Although the Francis Drake triple fought back after the break, Ladywell ran out comfortable winners by 29-12.

The match on the second rink was a much closer affair to begin with, as the teams exchanged two point gains on the first four ends. The Ladywell triple - Marion Edwards, Phil Welch and Des Marrett - then gained the upper hand and by the halfway point they were leading 12-6. The game remained closely fought for the first two ends after the break, but then Ladywell pulled away with a run of 11 points without reply in four ends, eventually winning by a margin of 26-10.

The third match was a much closer affair, as the Ladywell triple of Richard Moorhouse, Bernie Jermin and Robert Dunn competed strongly with their opponents. Ladywell were 5-3 up after seven ends. But then their opponents gained five points on the eighth end, giving them a lead that they never surrendered. Although the Ladywell team fought well, Francis Drake were the winners by a final score of 18-14.

This was Ladywell's third victory of the season over Francis Drake - so they'll be hoping that's a good omen and they can continue their winning streak in the next match between the two clubs - a semi-final clash in the Beckenham, Bromley & District Bowling Association's Triples League on August 27th.
