Mixed fortunes for Ladywell bowlers

Updated: Jun 11, 2023

It was a mixed bag for Ladywell's bowlers in knockout competitions this week. In the Kent Unbadged Men's Singles knockout competition, Ladywell men's champion Des Marrett continued his progress with a fine win, 21-14 against John Ouzman of Orpington Bowling Club.

The start of the match on the evening of Wednesday 7th June saw the lead change hands on several occasions, before Des gained the upper hand and moved away to victory.

It was a different story for Club Captain Phil Welch in the Beckenham, Bromley & District Bowling Association knockout singles on Friday 9th June. On a sweltering hot afternoon, his match against Nick Farmer of HSBC Bowling Club, got off to a similar start, with the lead changing hands a number of times. But then Phil's opponent upped his game and despite some excellent shots the Ladywell player wasn't able to keep pace, eventually losing 21-11.

So, Des moves on to the quarter-finals of his division in the Kent County competition against Tim Bartholomew of West Wickham, with the match to be played on Wednesday 14th June. Good luck, Des!
