It was a mixed week for Ladywell's bowlers in the quarter-finals of the Beckenham, Bromley and District knockout competitions this week.
First up on Monday 2nd August was Ladywell's men's champion Des Marrett in the quarter-final of the singles competition. In the singles competitions, the winner is the first to 21 points and Des's home match against his opponent from Petts Wood BC went all the way.
After 22 ends, the scores were tied at 18-all, but the Petts Wood champion proved just too strong for Des, taking two points on each of the next two ends to win by 22-18.
Next up were Ladywell's brother and sister pair of Mark and Kim Simmons. In the pairs competition, the match is played over 21 ends and whichever team has the most points is the winner. Mark and Kim started their match strongly and pulled away to a comfortable win, with their opponents conceding after 20 ends, with Ladywell 20-11 up.
So, commiserations to Des, who put up a gallant fight. And congratulations to Mark and Kim, who go through to play a pair from Bromley BC in the semi-finals on August 25th.
